Introducing Walker

As part of Florida Department of Transportation’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Strategic Plan, November 2015 to March 2016 will be the focus of the Alert Tonight Florida campaign. The purpose of Alert Tonight Florida is to educate and encourage safe walking behavior, specifically at night. In 2014, over 75% of pedestrian fatalities occurred at night.
To celebrate and encourage safe walking behavior at night, we would like to introduce “Walker.” Walker is the Alert Tonight Florida mascot, who makes sure everyone pledges to walk, bike and drive safely. Walker wants people to be seen and be safe, reminding everyone to be visible at night by wearing bright and/or reflective clothing.
Walker has already made some safety friends across the state by interacting and asking them to take the pledge to be a safe driver, pedestrian, and bicyclist. Some of his friends include radio play-by-play announcer for the Florida State Seminoles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gene Deckerhoff; Jacksonville Jaguars’ very own mascot, Jaxson de Ville; Alert Today Florida coalition members; Tampa Bay Lightning’s mascot, Thunderbug; Chick-fil-A cows; fans and more.
